Hon. Taiwo, a proud son of Ogun West and a strong advocate of cultural preservation, described the Egungun Festival as one of the most significant traditional celebrations that connect the people of Awori land to their ancestral roots. He emphasized that the festival is not just a display of masquerades and colorful costumes, but a deep expression of unity, spirituality, and communal identity among the Awori people.
According to him, the 𝗘𝗴𝘂𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 serves as a bridge between the living and the departed ancestors, promoting moral values, mutual respect, and social harmony. It reminds the Awori people of their heritage and reinforces their responsibility to sustain the customs passed down through generations. He further commended the Olota of Ota for his continuous effort in promoting and preserving Awori cultural heritage, which has made the ancient city of Ota a recognized center of tradition and cultural excellence in Ogun State.
Hon. Olayiwola Waliu Taiwo also pointed out that cultural festivals like the Egungun celebration contribute greatly to social development and tourism. He called on government at all levels, traditional rulers, and stakeholders in the cultural sector to continue supporting initiatives that project and protect Nigeria’s diverse heritage.
