The declaration was made during this year’s Igbo New Yam Festival, a culturally significant celebration held at the palace of the community’s traditional ruler in Atan, Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government. The event, graced by hundreds of Igbo residents, traditional leaders, youth groups, and political supporters, became a powerful statement of unity and political direction.
In his royal address, the traditional ruler commended the candidates for their contributions to national and local development. He prayed for divine guidance upon them and asked God to grant the endorsed aspirants victory, wisdom, and the strength to fulfil their promises to the people.
The Council of Chiefs also joined in offering their blessings, noting that the Igbo population in the area had enjoyed peaceful coexistence and significant progress under the current leadership. They emphasized the importance of supporting leaders with proven capacity, experience, and commitment to the welfare of the people.
Speaking on behalf of the Igbo residents, community representatives highlighted President Tinubu’s ongoing reforms at the national level, Senator Yayi’s developmental impact in Ogun West, and Hon. Olayiwola Taiwo’s grassroots engagement across the senatorial district as reasons for their endorsement. They further pledged to mobilize support, votes, and community engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
The New Yam Festival, celebrated annually to thank God for harvest, thus became a platform for cultural pride, political alignment, and community solidarity as the Igbo residents declared their unwavering support for their preferred candidates.
With this endorsement, political analysts believe the 2027 race in Ogun West and Ogun State at large continues to gain momentum as major communities and interest groups align themselves with aspirants they trust.
