In a renewed call for political unity and strategic focus ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State, Hon. Olayiwola Taiwo has emphasized the urgent need for the Ogun West Senatorial District to rally collectively behind Senator Olamilekan Adeola Solomon, popularly known as Yayi. Taiwo made the remarks during his visit to a coalition of Community Development Associations (CDAs) under the “Group CDA for Yayi 2027” in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government.
The meeting, which brought together leaders and members of Imisioluwa CDA, Isokan CDA, Kajola 2 CDA, and Oloruntele CDA, provided a platform for engagement on the political direction of Ogun West as the state approaches another election cycle. Addressing the gathering, Hon. Taiwo stressed that the district must avoid fragmentation and internal competition if it intends to successfully produce a governor in 2027 after several decades of unsuccessful attempts.
According to Taiwo, Ogun West has made multiple efforts over the last 49 years to produce the governor of Ogun State but has continuously fallen short. He attributed the repeated failures to factors such as inadequate financial capacity, lack of unified leadership, and the inability to put forward a candidate with statewide political reach. He argued that Senator Adeola Olamilekan stands out as the first Ogun West aspirant in modern political history with the financial strength, popularity, political network, and developmental track record required to secure victory at the state level.
𝗢𝗴𝘂𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻, Taiwo declared firmly. For almost five decades, we have struggled to produce a governor, not because we lack capable people, but because we have not had a candidate who combines wide political acceptance, experience in governance, and the economic muscle needed for a state-wide campaign. Senator Olamilekan Adeola has demonstrated capacity beyond reasonable doubt, and this is the time for us to unite behind him.
Taiwo noted that the 2027 governorship race should not be opened to multiple aspirants from Ogun West if the district truly desires to break the historical cycle of marginalization. He explained that introducing multiple candidates from the district would only divide votes, weaken negotiations, and ultimately give stronger districts an advantage. He therefore urged political leaders, traditional rulers, youths, women, and community stakeholders to adopt a unified strategy that places collective interest above individual ambition.
Speaking further, Taiwo praised Senator Adeola’s contributions to Ogun West since assuming office as the senator representing the district. He highlighted the senator’s numerous developmental projects, which cut across infrastructure, empowerment, education, rural electrification, road rehabilitation, and support for small businesses. According to him, Yayi has done more within a short period than many past representatives and has laid a strong foundation for the region’s socio-economic growth.
He stated that Yayi’s continued investments in the district are not merely political gestures but an expression of genuine commitment to the welfare and progress of Ogun West people. Taiwo added that the senator’s performance at the National Assembly, first representing Lagos West and now Ogun West, has earned him visibility and influence that would be crucial in a governorship contest.
At this moment in history, Ogun West cannot afford sentiments or unnecessary rivalry, he said. Our focus must be on who can win and who has consistently delivered. Yayi has shown capacity at every level of leadership. His track record speaks volumes, and his achievements across Ogun West communities are clear for all to see.
Taiwo commended the CDAs for organizing themselves into a support group ahead of the election, describing grassroots mobilization as the backbone of political success. He encouraged the group to intensify awareness, community engagement, and voter education, adding that the battle for Ogun West’s first governorship victory would be won through unity, strategy, and action.
The meeting ended with renewed enthusiasm among CDA members, who pledged their commitment to mobilizing support for Senator Adeola’s expected candidacy. Many expressed confidence that 2027 could be the defining year for Ogun West if all stakeholders work together with a shared purpose.
Hon. Olayiwola Taiwo later reaffirmed that his push for unity is not about personal interest but about ensuring Ogun West finally attains political parity in Ogun State. He maintained that with Senator Adeola’s track record, experience, and acceptability, the district stands a stronger chance than ever before to produce the next governor.
