‎Owode Ota, Ogun State. The conversation surrounding power rotation and political inclusion in Ogun State took centre stage on Tuesday as 𝗛𝗼𝗻.𝗢𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗶𝘄𝗼𝗹𝗮 𝗧𝗮𝗶𝘄𝗼 restated his position on why Ogun West should produce the next governor of the state in 2027. Speaking at a well-attended programme organized by the 𝗢𝗴𝘂𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗬𝗮𝘆𝗶 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 2027 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗕𝗔𝗧 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗢𝘄𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿, Hon. Taiwo laid out the historical, economic, and developmental reasons behind the long-standing campaign for governorship from the senatorial district.

‎The gathering, held in Owode Ota, attracted political leaders, youth groups, community stakeholders, and supporters of ongoing political movements aimed at strengthening local participation in future elections. The event featured discussions around governance, representation, and the evolving expectations of citizens as the 2027 political cycle gradually approaches.

‎In his address, Hon. Olayiwola Taiwo noted that since the creation of Ogun State in 1976, the governorship position has rotated between Ogun East and Ogun Central, leaving Ogun West as the only senatorial district yet to occupy the highest executive seat in the state. He explained that this historical pattern has fueled the long campaign for a political shift in 2027, as many residents and leaders across the district believe it is time for broader inclusion and balanced representation in the state's leadership.

‎Hon. Taiwo emphasized that Ogun West’s growing population, expanding industrial presence, and strategic economic contributions to Ogun State make it an important region that deserves recognition in the distribution of political leadership. He pointed out that Ado-Odo/Ota, Yewa North, Yewa South, Imeko-Afon, and Ipokia local governments collectively form a formidable part of the state’s economic engine, hosting industries, border communities, commercial hubs, and key agricultural zones.

‎According to him, several political stakeholders within the district have consistently argued that representation at the governorship level would not only address historical imbalance but also strengthen unity and confidence among residents who feel underrepresented in state-level decision-making.

‎During the programme, Hon. Taiwo also referenced Senator Olamilekan Adeola Solomon, popularly known as Yayi, as one of the prominent figures whose name has featured repeatedly in discussions about 2027. He described Senator Adeola’s legislative experience, administrative exposure, and involvement in national and state politics as factors that have positioned him as a notable personality in the ongoing debate about potential aspirants from Ogun West.

‎He stressed that his comments reflected the sentiments of several groups and individuals present at the event, especially since the programme itself was organized by movements openly identifying with Senator Adeola’s political trajectory. Hon. Taiwo explained that the emergence of such groups indicates increased political engagement across communities, with citizens expressing their opinions on the type of leadership they hope to see in the coming years.

‎The event also featured remarks from other speakers who discussed themes such as continuity in governance, youth participation in politics, and the need for stronger collaboration among stakeholders of Ogun West. Members of the organizing bodies spoke about their commitment to mobilizing discussions around the Ogun West agenda, while also aligning with national-level advocacy related to the PBAT for Second Term Movement.

‎Participants at the gathering highlighted the importance of dialogue, community involvement, and peaceful political engagement as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually build momentum. Many attendees also emphasized the need for residents to remain informed about issues affecting governance and representation.

‎In concluding his remarks, Hon. Olayiwola Taiwo called for unity among the people of Ogun West, noting that collective understanding and cooperation would be essential as the region continues to articulate its position on political inclusion. He reiterated that the final decision in any democratic contest rests with party structures, delegates, and ultimately the electorate, and encouraged ongoing engagement as the state moves toward another election cycle.
